Stringing · Montréal · Since the first racket

20 to 34 pounds.
Every one of them matters.

7,242 rackets, strung by hand in Montreal, every one of them logged. You set the string, the mains, the crosses and the pre-stretch. Richo strings it on his own machine and puts it back in your hands.

Drag it. The bed carries the load.

Tension

What a pound actually does

Every racket leaves here strung to a number you picked. This is what each part of the range feels like once you are on court.

20–24lbs

Power, and forgiveness

A looser bed trampolines. The sweet spot grows, off-centre shots still travel, and your elbow takes less of the shock.

25–28lbs

The working range

Enough bite to place a drop, enough give to clear from the back. Almost everything that comes through this shop is strung here.

29–34lbs

Control, and nothing else

The bed stops giving anything back. The shuttle goes exactly where you aimed, which only helps once your swing supplies the power itself.

Of 7,242 rackets in the archive, 69.3% were strung between 26 and 28 lbs. If you have no number in mind, that is the number.

The order

Four decisions, then it is built

No configurator and no upsell path. Pick a string, two tensions and a pre-stretch — that is the entire specification.

Yonex strings in stock
15

Every Yonex string he carries, or bring your own reel and pay for the labour only.

Mains, lbs
20–34

The long strings running the length of the racket. This is the number people mean when they say a tension.

Crosses, lbs
20–34

Usually the mains plus one or two. Split them if you know why; leave them level if you do not.

Pre-stretch
0–20%

The string is pulled past its target and let back before it is clamped, so the bed holds tension instead of dropping off in the first week.

Most-strung, all time

StringGaugePriceTimes strung
BG800.68 mmC$28 → C$32×1,584
BG65 Titanium0.70 mmC$27 → C$30×793
BG650.70 mmC$24 → C$28×770
Nanogy 980.66 mmC$32 → C$35×720

The price is the whole job — string and labour, fitted and knotted. Second figure applies from November 1, 2026. Bring your own reel and you pay labour only.

Ten per cent pre-stretch is the default on every order — a key on the machine, not a line on the invoice.

The hand-off

Nothing here ships

There is no checkout button because there is no courier. The racket goes from your hands to his and back again, and there are three places that can happen.

  • The locker at CEPSUM

Leave the racket in Richo's locker whenever you are already there. Confirm the drop-off on the site and he collects it on his next pass, several times a week.

  • École Ali Ibn Abi Talib

Meet him in person and hand it over. Bring anything you want looked at while you are there — he will tell you what a re-string will and will not fix.

  • Beaconsfield, by arrangement

The bench is at his house. Arrange it directly and the address comes to you. This is the option for a rush job, or a racket that needs more than string.

Cash or Interac e-Transfer, on the spot.

The tracker

Five states, and you can see all of them

Your racket is always in exactly one of these. Two send you an email; the other three you can check yourself, any time, without asking anyone.

  1. 01

    Dropped Off

You have handed it over and told the site so. It is logged with your string, your tensions and a reference code.

The archive

Every racket, one mark each

Nothing here is an estimate. The total is read from the same records the tracker uses, and it moves the moment a racket is booked.

The bench

One machine, one pair of hands

No queue of part-timers and no batch runs. Every racket in that count was strung by the same person on the same machine, which is why the number you ask for is the number you get.

A deep red Yonex electronic stringing machine, its panel reading 28.0, with the racket clamps and turntable to the left and reels of string on the shelf below.

The machine

Caught mid-job at 28.0 lbs, against an archive median of 27. Pre-stretch is a key on that panel, next to knot and brake.

A wall of Yonex badminton string — reels of coloured string hanging on a rail above rows of packeted string including BG80, Nanogy 95, Aerobite and BG65.

The wall

100 different strings appear in the archive. On the wall today: BG80, Nanogy, Aerobite, Exbolt, BG65.
